Classical Literature: Roman Mythology is a full-year literature and humanities course that explores the gods, heroes, legends, and cultural values of ancient Rome. Through storytelling, discussion, literary analysis, projects, and writing, students will examine major Roman myths while exploring themes such as power, fate, duty, war, sacrifice, loyalty, and identity. Students will also discover how Roman mythology continues to influence modern literature, art, language, and culture. This course is designed for middle school students with an optional high school credit track for older students seeking more rigorous literary and analytical study.
Eligible for 1.0 Literature Credit or 1.0 Humanities Credit, depending on the student’s academic plan and transcript needs.
Students pursuing high school credit will remain for an additional 25-minute weekly extension session following the core class.
This extension provides the added rigor necessary for high school-level coursework through:
literary analysis
advanced discussion
analytical writing
project guidance
source-based assignments
The extension allows older students to engage more deeply with Roman mythology as literature and humanities while preserving an age-appropriate pace for middle school students in the core class.
Students are expected to participate using a microphone and webcam to help create an interactive, supportive classroom environment. Class sizes are kept small, with a 12-student maximum, to ensure each student receives individual attention.
