Christina leads a 30-week, live interactive writing course for students in grades 6–8 using the Institute for Excellence in Writing’s Structure and Style method. This engaging, theme-based curriculum guides students through world history using literature while introducing them to notable people and events, all while building strong writing skills. The course covers all nine IEW units and provides a full writing credit.
Students attend a weekly live class that includes direct instruction and a writing assignment, with all work submitted through Google Docs. Each assignment receives personalized feedback and a grade, helping students grow with clear, consistent guidance. Classes are recorded if a student needs to miss a session, though regular attendance is strongly encouraged for the best experience.
No previous IEW experience is required. While students should complete their own typed work, light parental assistance is welcome (without altering the student’s original writing). Students are expected to participate using a microphone and webcam to help create an interactive, supportive classroom environment. Class sizes are kept small, with a -student minimum, to ensure each student receives individual attention.
This course includes 30 lessons, meeting twice a week for 55 minutes each session.
Total Class Fee: $240 per year
In total, students will attend 60 classes (55 minutes each). This breaks down to just $4 per class, or $8 per lesson, and includes lesson planning as well as grading of all assignments.
In addition to the instructor’s fee, this cost also helps cover the tools and resources needed to run the course, such as Google Workspace, IEW Gradebook, training, instructors guides, and other necessary tools.
Class fees can be paid in three installments for your convenience. A nonrefundable deposit is due in June to reserve your child’s spot in class. The remaining balance will be divided into two equal payments, each due three weeks before the start of the semester. Please note that payments become nonrefundable after the listed semester due dates. You are also welcome to pay the full balance at any time.
